Tembo is a sculptural stool that combines a wood and metal body with a solid cork seat. The designers drew their inspiration from the African tam-tams(Tembo means elephant feet in swahili) white giving a nod to the Memphis group aesthetics.
Tembo was originally part of the Marginal notes exhibition held by Note design studio collective as a creative stunt. The concept was to produce in real life the various doodles and ‘marginal notes’ that the members of the group had in their notebook, however crazy they might be.
The colorful and sculptural creations were to define Note’s identity and originated their career as product designers.
Note Design Studio is a collective of architects, graphic & product designers established in Sweden in 2008. They presented their first furniture pieces in 2010 during the Marginal exhibition where the colorful and sculptural creations were to define Note’s identity and originated their career as one of the main player in nowadays Nordic design scene.
Their style combines the elegant simplicity of Nordic design with a playful and almost naïve identity.
