MARFA
ANTHONY GUERRÉE
coffee table
Marfa is a coffee table whose base is composed of large, intersecting aluminum beams arranged diagonally. This complex but stable base contrasts with the softness and fluidity of the blurred glass top.MARFA
The Marfa coffee table is a sculptural centerpiece, merging robust materiality with visual lightness through its carefully balanced forms.
Conceived by Anthony Guerrée, Marfa pays tribute to the work of Donald Judd, especially his iconic use of minimal, repeated forms to explore volume and negative space. The table’s name is a nod to Marfa, Texas—a remote desert town where Donald Judd relocated in 1971 and established an enduring center for minimalist art.
This geographic connection underscores the table’s conceptual foundation, linking structure and material in a piece that celebrates both presence and absence, solidity and openness.

A RAW ARTISANAL APPEAL
The base of Marfa is crafted using sand-cast aluminum, a process that lends each piece a unique character. Molten aluminum is poured into a sand mold, which is broken after casting, ensuring that no two bases are identical. The texture of the sand leaves subtle impressions on the metal, capturing the raw quality of the casting process and preserving the artisanal imprint in every detail.
Once removed from the mold, the aluminum undergoes meticulous hand-finishing, where artisans smooth, polish, and refine each beam. This blend of raw texture with a polished finish allows Marfa to maintain a sense of the material’s origin, grounding its minimalist design with tactile depth and a hint of industrial beauty.

A DIALOGUE OF LIGHT AND MATERIALITY
The cast glass top of Marfa has a slighty irregular finish, with organic ripples that recall the fluidity of water. These irregularities add a sense of movement, enhancing the table’s visual lightness.
