The Iris Lamp is crafted from a harmonious blend of materials The solid wood discs, cut and finished by hand, ground the piece in an organic warmth, highlighting the skilled woodworking and attention to materiality that.
The stainless-steel blades pass through these wooden discs and are securely anchored by tiny brass fittings, resembling delicate jewels, which add an intimate touch to the bold structure. This simplicity of assembly is clever; despite its substantial appearance, Iris is designed to be easily dismantled and reassembled, lending it a solidity and stability without sacrificing flexibility
Jean-Baptiste is the cofounder and art director of La Chance since 2012.
Jean-Baptiste was a design geek from a young age : “ On my bedside table when I was 15, you could find books on Ruhlmann or Eames and I spent my Saturdays in Saint-Germain district furniture or at the flea markets.” 10 years after, the passion was still intact when Jean-Baptiste decided to leave the investment found he was working for and revert to his first love.
At the center of Iris, an LED light diffuses a warm, even glow that never reveals its source, softly illuminating the steel blades. The carefully arranged blades act like shutters, alternately hiding and revealing the light as one moves around the lamp, creating an almost cinematic play of light and shadow. This ambient lighting effect recalls the mood lighting of the 70s, where light was designed to be felt as much as seen.
