MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP
Our love for beautiful materials is guiding the creative approach. The iconic designs are reinforced by the emphasis on noble and honest materials such as marble, solid wood, metal, cork, leather, blown glass, and pure lambswool from New Zealand for the rugs.
All La Chance products are made in human scale production units in Europe (except for rugs custom made in India). This geographical closeness allows La Chance to develop a simple and respectul work relationship with its producers.
Our highly qualified artisans combine traditional techniques and innovative processes to manufacture La Chance products. Each piece passing through the hands of our craftsmen is the object of a particular attention.
La Chance offers bespoke services to meet the requirements of each client, both for residential, hotel and commercial projects.
Through the use of long lasting materials and traditional technics, La Chance is producing sustainable furniture for the pleasure of next generations of design enthusiasts.
La Chance sources only wood issued from sustainable exploitation FSC approved forests and only uses European species.
La Chance has reduced the use of petrol based components to the minimum (some electic components) and always favors natural materials.
A GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE APPROACH
La Chance pieces share a theatrical presence and sculptural design. These conversation pieces are often the 'twist' in more traditional interiors. Our clients and partners are design enthusiasts who share a passion for strong interiors reflecting their personalities.
The sophistication of La Chance products comes from the harmonious confrontation of shapes and materials. La Chance always plays with accumulation and juxtaposition of materials and colors.
Another trait of La Chance pieces is the use of structures as ornemental elements. Since we only use traditional, noble materials and construction, we love to display what is usually hidden. As a result, most of our pieces are as interesting from the back as they are from the front.
A SIGNATURE STYLE
THE SPLIT PERSONALITY
Every personality is complex and everybody has both a playful and outgoing side and a more sober and quiet one. Through its sculptural pieces, La Chance wanted to allow its clients to express both side of their personality in their interior.
The inaugural collection presented in 2012 in Milan named 'Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hide was a reference to Stevenson's novel ‘Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ (1886). The hero oscillates between insanity and reason and splits to be sometimes the impulsive Mr Hyde or the very courteous Dr Jekyll. La Chance therefore offers two visions of each object and plays with colors, finishes and materials:
‘Hyde’ products are optimistic, playful, colored, sometimes naïve. The result is arty and full of energy,
‘Jekyll’ products are soft and polished. Their finish is often treated with natural materials and dark tones. The result is sober and luxurious.
Everyone can choose his favorite universe or associate both to create a rich and complex personality.
La Chance follows this legacy in a modern and creative way:
"As opposed to the Japanese sleek and pure design, or the conceptual Dutch and flamboyant Italian, French furniture is about décor, the idea of décor is central to La Chance “.
The brand makes a contemporary transcription of this spirit through re-editions of Jacques Emile Ruhlmann creations, one of the undisputed masters of this period. His aesthetical and functional pieces remain astonishingly modern.
The accessories collection of La Chance is based on this French Art de vivre: beautiful objects to go through your everyday routine with style.
A FRENCH HERITAGE
Art Deco is a Design movement that emerged just before World War 1 and dominated the artistic world until the decline of the 30s. It succeeded the exuberance of Art Nouveau and returned to purer forms while offering both a geometric and decorative style. Art deco is a major inspiration in La Chance approach to combined use of materials and the theatrical approach of interior design.
As a designer and decorator, Jacques Emile Ruhlmann is the leading figure of the movement and established both the aestetics and theoric values of Art Deco.
Rulhmann defined himself as an “ensemblier”, meaning ‘the one who puts together‘ in French. He was a real precursor for his time by being one of the first interior designers as he was indeed neither an artisan nor an architect.
Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann (1879 - 1933)
La Chance was born from the will of Louise Breguet and Jean-Baptiste Souletie to express their vision of French design.
Before they created La Chance, Louise was an architect while Jean-Baptiste worked in finance. They have lived in India and in China, drawn offices in London and houses in Haiti and worked for big luxury groups and start-ups.
They were joined in this adventure by a team of architects and designers, several dogs, a buddhist DJ, and a one-eyed parrot.
All those wonderful people will welcome you in our office in the Marais district in Paris.
