Eckartsau Castle is an important historical place : Kaiser Karl, the last emperor of Austria signed his abdication there before he had to leave the country. The castle also constitutes a typical historical scenery, in which some parts of the famous movie Sissi where shot.
Nowadays, some areas of the castle can be used for events like weddings, hence the soft hues, smooth materials and round shapes chosen by the architect.

In the same mood as Maison & Objet La Chance’s booth last January, the classic pieces and the new creations were presented in a moon themed surealistic environment. The presentation was organized in 6 scenes set before a lunar landscape background, creating an interesting play with the textures and reflections of the products.
PLANET chair by Jean-Baptiste Souletie
Planet is an upholstered chair inspired by the distinctive silhouette of planet Saturn. The rings of the 6th planet from the solar system are mostly composed of ice particles and form a smooth ellipsis that inspired the shape of the wooden back supporting the round cushion of Planet. The subtle texture of solid wood paired with the delicate touch of a wool broadcloth by Maison Pierre Frey give the Planet a soft and luxurious feel. The Planet chair combines the poetry of celestial bodies with the cold technicity of space modules as the mat black metal structure brings a contrasting technical feel.
BLOCK lounge chair by Jonas Lutz
Block is a lounge armchair inspired by the Brutalist architectural movement. Two massive blocks of walnut which are the structure and the armrests, give the armchair its singular silhouette. This geometric identity is balanced by the lightness and comfort of the seat upholstered in a Bouclette fabric or a luxurious sheepskin.
ZAG coat hooks by Studio Bling
Zag is a family of coat hooks. Their varied shapes are inspired by barrettes, pins, or twisted metal rods combined to create a graphic composition. Each element offers a different way to hang your clothes, your bag, or any accessory. The modern ‘sans serif’ fonts simple and strong shapes were used by Bling studio to create these metal shapes. The lines intersect and combine to create graphic shadows on your wall. You can create your own sculptural composition by combining the Zag elements. 3 sets of 2 Zag hooks are available with different colors. You can combine them for a visually infinite number of compositions.
FAX pendant lamps by Jean-Baptiste Souletie
The Fax pendant lamp is a large marble pendant light. The flat LED dimable source is surrounded by a thin slab of marble (white, green, or black) held by four brass bolts with gilloche pattern. The 3 shapes (rectangle, oblong, or ‘stamp edge’) allow to create numerous compositions. The overall thickness is only 3cm.

La Chance had an instant crush on Bump when it was first presented at Spazio Rossana Orlandi in 2016. We decided to work with the successfull czech duo Jan&Henry on an updated version. The Credenza is made of metal with a marble top. Bump’s iridescent color reminds the reflects of the beetle’s carapace. Indeed, the insect (the same as in our logo) was the theme for 2017 products.
La Chance presented in Milan the work of Swedish artist: the pieces will be on the show among La Chance collection. Jenny Nordberg is a conceptual artist working on unique mirrors. They are a part of the “3 to 5 second project”: the idea was to present “almost ready mades”. The artist drops liquid silver on glass to create the uneven and one of a kind pieces. Perception is troubled by the blend of transparency and reflection.

An ambitious new design company, La Chance, launches at the Salone del Mobile, Milan this April, with Jekyll and Hyde, a furniture and lighting collection created by several of the hottest young designers around the world.
By debuting in Milan at MOST – the high-profile platform for creative innovation instigated by Tom Dixon – La Chance is hitting the ground running. It’s the brainchild of Jean-Baptiste Souletie, 28 and Louise Breguet, 27. Souletie was previously in finance, and Breguet is an architect. When they met they discovered they were both inspired the spirit of the Art Deco movement, where objects were valued for their decorative attributes.
“We like things to be warm, colourful, and good quality,” she adds. “And in terms of style, you can see all the workings of the furniture, even the upholstered pieces, as we have nothing to hide.” The French duo has taken a commercial approach to their business, thoroughly researching their market, and sourcing manufacturers around Europe.
This commercial approach is reflected in the collection’s theme: dual identity. “We see two potential audiences for luxury furniture,” says Souletie, “there are the design enthusiasts, who want uncompromising pieces in bold colours. Then there are people who love contemporary design but prefer more muted tones.” To accommodate these two audiences, each piece comes in two versions: Jekyll and Hyde. The Jekyll version features prime colours and shiny finishes, while Hyde is in monotone or natural materials, like brushed metal and oiled wood. La Chance is combining a market approach with a design statement; “we’re saying to consumers: choose your personality,” says Souletie.

The international interiors show IMM Cologne has invited an international designer to use architecture, interior design and furniture in a simulated house in order to make a personal statement about contemporary living.
During the last 5 years, 3 of the invited designers are part of La Chance team of designers. Lucie Koldova is the invited designer for the 2018 edition. The house will feature the Apollo lamp and the Iconic standing mirror she designed for La Chance.
“Das Haus 2018” will be shaped less by walls than by lighting cells in which light, appearing in various forms and controlled in different ways, will not only mark out the space, but also support its function and a specific sentiment. “In my ‘Haus’, light will play the main role, and the furniture will complete the rooms –and not the other way around!”, says Lucie Koldova, summing up the new characteristics of “Das Haus” in a nutshell.
By creating different light layouts and specific light feelings of each lighting cells, Koldova can reach interesting visual contradictions. We face a lot of stressful moments in real life, therefore the designer is seeking for a balance in “Das Haus.” “People constantly swing back and forth between their feelings and moods, at home they should feel balanced and recharged.
This is a place where light can help”, says Koldova. “An ideal living space therefore offers a wide variety of mood levels, because its rooms close the circle between the ideas in our emotional world and the demands of real life.” As a result, every room in Koldova’s “Haus” aims to represent a certain feeling and perform a practical role in everyday life in order to satisfy individual needs. Then, at its heart, a living room represents shared experiences.
2016 – Sebastian Herkner
In 2016, Sebastian Herkner created a dwelling that was not concretely defined by walls, but was clear and accessible for all. The unconventional round-shape of his design was reminiscent of the tent-like yurts or traditional ring architecture of rural china, except developed as a transparent structure as series of textile curtains defineed each area, layered in a way that played with light and perspectives.

Shirley Tat is an Australian woman in love with design. She accepted to answer some questions and show us her home.
Hi Shirley, could you tell us more about you ? Your life, your job, your hobbies ?
Yes of course! I work in Digital Marketing, and specifically in Social Media at an agency called One Green Bean. A lot of my personal interests intertwine with my work as I enjoy capturing moments and creating visual stories that can be shared online with a passionate community. Outside of work, I have a deep love for design and the aesthetics of it. This is across Fashion and Interiors, ranging from styling outfits to designing spaces within our home.
How did you discover La Chance ? How would you describe La Chance’s universe ?
After we purchased a house, my husband and I began our journey – designing and decorating our home. Upon purchasing a range of furniture pieces and accessories, we were introduced to La Chance by our consultant at Living Edge. La Chance was a world that stood out for us – it was an eclectic range of unforgettle statement pieces. I was deeply attracted to the bold colours, the edgy designs and the perfect balance between playfulness and properness.
What are your favorite pieces in the collection and why ?
I think my most favorite would be the Bolt Stool in stained beech wood and copper. It was actually our first La Chance piece and one I kept going back to the showroom to look at. (And when that happens or you can’t stop thinking about it, you know you’re in love). I also love our Anemone rug. Finding a beautiful rug design is incredibly hard… the role of a rug is to group together a selection of furniture pieces to create a space in a subtle – yet unique – way. The Anemone rug did that perfectly for our living room by standing out without stealing the show. I also love our Climb shelf, it was a maze to assemble, and you don’t know how much has gone into the design of it until you put it together! Our Rocky is a new favorite, it is just WOW. Enough said! And the Apollo is one I’ve been eyeing for ages… it’s probably one for our home one day (we have way too many lights at the moment!).
If you could ask us for your dream furniture, what would it be ?
This is a hard question! I think I would love to see La Chance’s take on a bedframe. Bedframes are difficult when it comes to design, and very few designers have included them into their collection – which is why it’s genuinely hard to find nice ones! And personally I have been waiting for someone to extend their range into bedrooms… living spaces, dining areas and study rooms are much too easy and ubiquitous – someone needs to shake it up!
Thanks Shirley!
